Fortune 500 companies and MBA employers in South Carolina and North Carolina

According to Fortune Magazine, “Fortune 500 companies represent two-thirds of the U.S. GDP with $12 trillion in revenues, $840 billion in profits, $17 trillion in market value and employ 27.9 million people worldwide.”

Currently, there is only one South Carolina company among Fortune 500. However, there are several South Carolina companies that are ranked not too far behind. Here’s a look at four of the companies MBA students might find interesting:

Domtar, MBA Employer Domtar

Headquartered in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Domtar ranks as the 489th company on Fortune’s 500 list. The company sells fiber-based paper and personal care products, and employs over 9,000 employees. Current openings appropriate for MBA graduates are in areas of accounting, financial services, human resources, marketing, purchasing, sales and supply chain management.

Sonoco, MBA EmployerSonoco Products

According to its website, Sonoco is “a global provider of packaging products and services delivering innovating solutions to industrial and consumer business.” It employs over 21,000 people and it is headquartered in Hartsville, SC. Available career opportunities appropriate for MBA students include accounting and finance, administration, human resources, marketing, sales and supply chain. For example, one of the current openings at the Hartsville location is for a Logistics Sourcing Leader, for which an MBA is listed as a preferred requirement.

Scana Energy, South Carolina MBA EmployerSCANA

Headquartered in Cayce, SC, SCANA is a gas and electric utilities company with over 5,000 employees. Currently ranked in spot 556 by Fortune, SCANA’s career opportunities for MBA graduates include mostly analyst type positions. For example, a current opening in the Cayce location is a Senior Analyst position for the financial planning and analysis department. The job description says “a CPA, MBA or other postgraduate degree in business is preferred.”

According to its website, ScanSource is a “leading global provider of technology products and solutions, focusing on point-of-sale (POS), barcode, physical security, video, voice, data networking and technology services.” Currently ranked in Fortune’s spot 685, the company employs roughly 2,000 employees and is headquartered in Greenville, SC. Among current local job openings appropriate for MBA graduates are account analyst, business development manager, financial analyst, and HR generalist.

Beyond the above-mentioned companies, it’s important to note that there are a number of Fortune 500 companies in North Carolina that are in close proximity to Limestone’s Gaffney and Greenville locations. For example, Bank of America, Duke Energy, Nucor, Sonic Automotive, and Sealed Air are all headquartered in Charlotte, NC.
